Steps to Obtain Your Florida Real Estate License

Step 1: Prepare to Dominate Your Pre-Licensing Course

Your new career in real estate starts right here. This first step has the power to change your life—opening the door to a profession with real opportunity, flexibility, and earning potential. At Mentors Real Estate Academy, you’ll complete the state-required 63-hour Sales Associate Pre-Licensing Course, available online at your own pace or, when offered, live in person. This course is the essential foundation for your licensing process and prepares you with the knowledge and confidence to move toward the state exam and the career ahead. Click here to start today!

Step 2: Apply for Your License and Register for the State Exam

Now that you’ve committed to the journey, it’s time to move with purpose. Submit your license application through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) and complete the required electronic fingerprinting. You can take care of this step before or during your coursework—either way, it keeps you moving forward without losing momentum. Additional information is available through the Florida Real Estate Commission

Step 3: Schedule and Pass the Florida State Exam

After you have submitted your license application, completed fingerprinting, and your application has been approved by the DBPR, you will receive authorization to test, along with a Candidate ID/FLREAPP number. Using this ID, you must schedule your Florida real estate exam directly with Pearson VUE, either online or by phone. Exam appointments are first-come, first-served, so it is important to choose your date and time as soon as your eligibility is confirmed.
To increase your chances of passing on the first attempt, we strongly recommend pairing your pre-licensing course with a practice question bank. Working through multiple-choice questions in advance helps you become familiar with the exam format and reinforces the key concepts you will see on test day.

Step 4: Activate Your License with a Brokerage

After passing the state exam, your license must be activated under a licensed real estate broker in order to begin practicing. Choosing the right brokerage is an important career decision, as brokers offer different support structures, commission models, and growth opportunities.

Step 5: Continue Growing Your Career

While optional, joining a local real estate board can provide valuable advantages, including access to educational programs, market information, and opportunities to network with experienced professionals.
In addition to traditional boards, many independent real estate groups, associations, and online communities offer training, workshops, and networking opportunities that support your development as a real estate professional. Exploring these options can help you find the peer community and learning environment that best fit your goals.
Membership in Florida Realtors® and the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) is voluntary and separate from local board membership. These organizations provide additional benefits, and eligible licensees may use the REALTOR® designation if they choose to join.
